SAN FRANCISCO — An apparent fatal stabbing outside a San Francisco BART station early Wednesday closed down the system during the morning commute, officials said. Media reports indicated that San Francisco police were investigating after the stabbing outside the Embarcadero station. Inquiries to the department were not returned immediately.

A man accused of stabbing a woman on board a BART train in San Francisco earlier this month is expected to be appear in court on multiple charges Tuesday, including attempted murder.

At least one person was stabbed to death early Wednesday morning near the Embarcadero BART station. The fire department reported the stabbing just before 6 a.m. Police shut down the BART station temporarily to look for the attacker.

San Francisco BART lines were experiencing delays in all directions Wednesday morning following a fatal stabbing near the transit system’s Embarcadero station. San Francisco police said in a statement that officers responded to Market and Main streets downtown following reports that a person was bleeding.
