Tensions rose in Dharavi after officials from the G North administrative ward arrived at 90-Feet Road around 9 am on Saturday to demolish the illegal section of the Mehboob-E-Subhani mosque

After protests in Dharavi, the trustees of the mosque held talks with the BMC officials and sought four to five days to remove the encroached portion.

Tension erupted in Dharavi, Asia's largest slum, as residents protested the BMC's move to demolish an illegal portion of a mosque. After talks, mosque trustees secured a four-to-five-day extension to remove the encroachment.

A large group of residents gathered on the road to protest the BMC's actions, prompting a significant police presence to manage the crowd.

Late Saturday, the Dharavi police registered a case against 5,000 odd individuals for protesting against the civic authorities and blocking traffic, following which the three persons were identified with the help of video footage and later arrested.

An official said that a large number of police personnel were deployed at the site to prevent any untoward incident in view of the huge gathering.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's drive to demolish an alleged illegal portion of a mosque in densely-populated Dharavi in Mumbai has been cancelled for today. The BMC has given eight days to the mosque committee.
